Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgical procedure that helps reduce puffiness, correct drooping skin, and soften the shadows and lines beneath the eyes. These changes often come from excess fat, loose skin, or shifting tissue that happens with age. This procedure can involve removing excess fat, tightening muscles, or removing excess eyelid skin to create a smoother contour.

The goal is to improve the appearance of the lower eyelid without making it look overdone or pulled. Depending on your anatomy, the incision may be made inside the lower lid or just below the lashes. Care is always taken to hide the incision and support healing with minimal scarring.

You may be a good candidate for lower blepharoplasty if you have under-eye bags that don’t improve with rest or skincare, puffiness or bulging caused by excess fat in the lower lid, or loose, wrinkled, or sagging skin beneath the eyes. Many people choose this procedure when they feel their appearance looks tired, even when they’re well-rested. Ideal candidates are in good overall health and have realistic expectations. If you have certain eye or medical conditions or tend to heal slowly, other options might be recommended. Lower blepharoplasty is typically done on an outpatient basis and takes about one to two hours. The procedure can be done using local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia, depending on your needs.

The incision may be made just below the lashes or on the inside of the lower lid. Dr. Joshi then removes or repositions fat, tightens the lower eyelid muscle if needed, and trims excess skin to restore a smoother shape. Once the work is done, the incisions are closed with very fine sutures.

The cost of lower blepharoplasty varies based on the specifics of your surgery, whether other procedures like upper eyelid surgery or a brow lift are done at the same time, and the type of anesthesia used.
